I have been a designer/maker of children's wear since graduating from St.Martins School of Art, London, with an MA in Fashion Design (children's wear) in the early 1990's. I was there just after John Gallliano, so it was a very exiting time and place to be.
Both my parents are fine artists who studied at The Royal College of Art and so we, my brother and sisters, were expected to follow a career in the arts. It was just a choice of which discipline, and since I had started sewing, by playing around on my mothers old peddle power Singer at the age of seven, the natural choice was Fashion Design.
When my partner and I started the business, I was making dungarees from my parents old larder and selling at Country Fairs in the Lake District. With a growing following Nicki B became a Limited company in 1996 and now sells at fairs all over the country.
I keep production in-house because I want to ensure the high standard of quality, that customers over the years have come to appreciate. Many customers have told me that the clothes have been passed down to a number of children and still look good after much wash and wear.
All the Nicki B designs are completely unique, I have originated the patterns and graded them to different sizes, as well as designing the jeans buttons and rivets, and hand painted holly buttons and all the different fabric combinations. I only use the very best quality fabrics from UK suppliers, and they are mainly 100% cottons, so are machine washable at cotton wash temperatures.
We have a high commitment to customer service and will always exchange goods, to a different size or colour, should it be required.
